Had an experience with an ass of a monk too in the tombs. I had just logged on and was at the tombs looking for a PUG for a few runs when i got invited by one such group. The instant that i joined that group, i was pmed by a monk in that group going, "who are you?" Thinking that a weird question as i was the one who was invited and i wasn't the one asking to join them, i replied, "i dunno, you guys were the ones who invited me?" Out of courtesy as i thought they might be mistaking me for someone they had earlier, i then proceeded to ask too if he wanted me to leave. This monk then replied in a way that can only be taken as a snub, how it wasn't up to him.

While i was still feeling kinda insulted at this point as i have not done anything to deserve such a snub, this monk then went on to ask the team what their fame was (i later realised by the sequence of events that he was trying to get me kicked). The leader and several others replied with their fame and i feeling insulted, decided not to reply and wait for him to post his own fame. Well guess what, he didn't and called us all noobs and then left without any further explanation. Talk about being an ass, i just got invited to your group by your leader, have not said or done anything to deserve being looked down on, and this monk is already dismissive of me, go figure.

It's called the "Small Penis Complex". They don't understand that sitting days on end at a computer drinking Coke and eating HoHo's will stunt the growth of the little guy.

Truly spoken!

I had a great experience last night with one of my characters in a group. I ran into a lvl 20 W/Mo who decided to join a group I was putting together. I asked the group who had done the mission before, and this guy said he did. Therefore I appointed him leader and said I would follow his lead. I also asked the group to do so as well. This guy was a bit gruff, but when confronted with a bad choice that got us killed, he agreed and was open to imput from another who had done the mission before as well. Anyway, we tried it a second time, and we won! This W/Mo fought like crazy and in the end saved our butt, and we got to the Amnoon Oasis!

He was an example of a good "elitest" lol! He was confident and yet even handed.

Actually he wasn't an elitist at all, the term has nothing to do with actual experience. He was an experienced player who could admit when he was wrong, a good player simply put.

If he were an elitist he'd have been too damn arrogant to admit his fault, would have blamed it on the people who hadn't done the mission before (to help heal his damaged ego, since it really was his fault). Then he would have cried n00b and left the party. So basically good and elitists have no place in the same sentence together, except this one :P.

I know quite a bit about the game.

When I encounter something new to me, I defer to others who have the experience. This simple check of one's ego eliminates most in-party problems.

Newbs are new to the game. They make mistakes, are politely reprimanded by the group, adjust their playing style and grow from the experience. They eventually become the experienced.

Noobs may or may not be new to the game. They make mistakes and are politely reprimanded. They then curse, draw on the map, and continue with their detrimental behavior.

Newbs lose their stigma through time and experience.

Noobs never lose their stigma. They thrive in it.

I have a near endless amount of patience for newbs.

I have zero for noobs.

God all mighty I hate internet slang! Maybe I'll rant in an off topic forum somewhere.

To me n00b and newb are both short form for newbie. Just one is spelled wrong, but of course in the land of the intranet their totally different. God I hate internet slang, but thats a whole other thread.

Maybe it was pay back for you being a bit selfish, whether you can handle yourself or not, in not waiting for everyone to load into the mission.

You just showed the others, that why should we listen to this guy if he isn't going to listen to us. Others follow your actions and not what you say.

In my eyes, that is sort of eliteism.
well, that monk were barking orders and annoyed me to no end, and it were only a few skeleton mesmers and rangers- nothing thay I couldn't take care of. I TOLD them i played through this mission more times than i cared to count, and follow my lead. guess who they listened to? the monk who acted like a army drill sargeant. even though I -was- wee bit selfish, they should have realized that the monk were leading them to failure or at least being unusually bossy! I did. when i play as monk, I suggest, people tend to listen to me. probably cuz they're afraid I'd leave them behind which I wouldn't. - I guess the story is an another example of using the monk powers in a abusive way.

Although, I have ran into pre searing elitests who were lvl 7-10 and trampling on the "new" players.....

Yay another ''I had a negative experience I'll whine to the world thread''. If someone told you something mean or called you a newb, noob or n00b then too bad. If you were walking down the street and a hobo came up to you and started saying you're ugly, stupid and smelly would you care ? I wouldn't, I'd do the same thing everyone else does and walk away or ignore him till he blows off his steam. This is the internet and it's filled with smart and dumb, arrogant and non-arrogant, elitists and non-elitists etc... The thing with this social environment (I hate referring to the Internet as a social area but some it is) is that it's unlike the real world where if you act all c ocky at work you'll get fired or if you say f*** you to someone down the street you get punched in the face. Here there is no direct or indirect reprimand for poor behavior. People take advantage of that and dish out their hard day on you new players who make mistakes. But after someone put in all caps ''HAHAHA YOU PUT EMPATHY ON A MONK'' will you do it again ? If you do it and get this sort of message often maybe you should turn around and look at yourself. It's always easy to blame others before turning to one's self and thinking about your flaws. So please don't interpret this as a flame because it's not at all intended to be so, but just get over it and stop coming to forums to whine. That's why god gave you a mother and a box of kleenex.

Are you saying that you are holier than the people who you say are saying that they are holier than the "n00bs"?
Just by the pure fact that someone is acting/thinking they are better than me.....does unfortunately drop them below me on the evolutionary ladder (ny no actions of my own).

And as for just ignoring them or not letting them get to you that much....for some the latter part of that advice is the high road. For me, I will NEVER let people like that get by with that type of attitude. Example:

In real life, I shave me head smooth, have tattoos on both biceps and tend to have a serious expression. I hail from the Austin Tx area which if anyone knows is a pretty laid back city. I currently live in Dallas Tx which is a very pretentious city (fake boobs & BMW's are IN ....sigh yea w/e). Anyway....I moved here 4yrs ago and one of my first experiences in the community was grocery shopping, it was a weekend and I enjoy ME time so I dress down...very casual. So there I am walking down an aisle, sleeveless shirt/bandana/shorts and sandals....when a lady turns her cart up the aisle in my direction. She looks up, makes eye contact...{it looked like it from a distance but I think she was more taking in the whole picture}...does a 180 double time & disappears
Then when I was leaving the store, I noticed a lady and her kid coming in so I held the door open as I was heading out......she too kinda gave me the up & down look and proceeded to pull he kid a lil closer to her and didn't have the manners to even say thank you or at least nod politely.
......so I made sure to say very abrutly so all in range could hear......YOUR WELCOME!!!! Never let them off the hook, thats letting them and you take the easy way out.

These people that look for reasons to make them selves seem superior to other players, usually by time spent playing. If someone doesn't know a certain aspect of the game, they usually start with the mockery and cries of "n00b" (god I hate that *profanity* word!). They expect everyone to know every little intricacy of the game right out of the box.

For *profanity* sake! Give people time to learn! Some of us have lives outside of the friggin game. These people and their attitude make it harder for new people to find groups and thus enjoy the game. These people tarnish our gaming time with bitching, mockery and inflated egoes. These people ruin the community, by spreading their god forsaken attitude to other people. Making some players feel this is how it needs to be, that new people really are the devil (or some tripe like that).

Well to all you people out there (you know who you are). CHILL THE *profanity* OUT! It's just game, some of people are still learning the ropes. Give them time, help them along. No I wont kick them from the party because they dont know what a smite is. No I wont kick them because their build isnt the way you think it should be, no I wont kick them because they dont have any rank.

Also "newbie" is not synomynous with "idiot", a new player isnt necessarily a bad player. Also a so-called "experienced" player isnt necessarily a good player. Just because your an asshole with a self-inflated sense of superiority doesn't make you superior. Don't be a prick in-game just because your a loser in real life. Don't be an ass to new players to make up for your life's inadequacies.

I could go on and on and on. But I'll end with this...Grow up people.
whatever, noob

in guildwars the real battle is between the role-playing(ascended) characters and the customized pvp characters.

if they beat you up say in arena or tombs, just shout "CUSTOMIZED"!

when your roleplaying char pwned customized, that'll be dual Blow.

Did you actually read and comprehend that post you refer to?

Nobody said ALL experienced players live at home with their parents in a basement and have no life. The post referred specifically to the kind of player we are talking about here: snotty, elitist, name-calling creeps who call anyone who irks them NOOB. Not all players from BETA, nor all players who have played a lot. Just those who go around lording it over everyone and being jerks.

If you really want to defend those kinds of players, well, go for it. And I hope you keep your porn mags away from the space heater in your parents' basement.
